How It Works
Calculation Method
CPU + GPU TDPs form the base. RAM, storage, fans and peripherals are added. A 30% safety headroom is applied for spikes and future upgrades.
Why Safety Margin?
PSUs run most efficiently at 50-80% load. The 30% buffer handles power spikes, prevents crashes during gaming, and extends PSU lifespan significantly.
Efficiency Rating
Gold (90%) or better is recommended. A 500W system with a Bronze PSU draws ~590W from the wall vs ~556W with Gold — less heat, lower electricity bills.
Overclocking
Checking the Overclocked box adds 20% to CPU+GPU power to account for increased voltage and frequency, especially important for extreme overclocks.
